2026 Board Nominations
Every fall, BCCFP opens applications to members to sit on our Board of Directors to help set the organization’s strategic focus, engage in meaningful discussion about the future of family medicine, and participate in diverse committees.
We are seeking Board members who reflect the values, scope and diversity of family practice in BC. On September 15, 2026, an email will go out to eligible members with a link to our online nominations form.
Joining the BCCFP Board of Directors is a wonderful opportunity to connect with family physician leaders around the province, and help shape the future of family medicine.
All eligible candidates are welcome to put their name forward and will take part in the election. Similar to previous years, returning Directors will be identified on the election ballot.
Nominations will open on September 15, 2026 at 8:00 am and will be accepted until October 9, 2026 at 4:30 pm.
Role of the Board
Board members are committed individuals willing to assume a leadership role in the governance of the BCCFP, a provincial, member-based organization. Working closely with the Executive Director, the Board is responsible for establishing strategic direction, supporting the BCCFP's mission and vision, and acting as ambassadors for the organization. The Board has a maximum of thirteen (13) Directors. See the current Board of Directors.
Director terms are three years.
Ideal Candidate Skills & Experience
We are looking for candidates who collectively bring skills in board and governance, financial literacy, strategic leadership, and advocacy as it relates to the profession.
Nomination Requirements
- Be a practicing member of the BCCFP in good standing and consent to be nominated.
- Use the online nomination system to complete your nomination (a link will be emailed to you) and ask two individuals who know you and who are BCCFP/CFPC members to second your nomination online.
- Review and submit the following to office@bccfp.bc.ca by 4:30 pm on October 9, 2026. This information will be used to inform Board development and future nomination and election processes:
- Submit a photo and a candidate's statement by October 9, 2026. Your photo and statement will be posted on our website and circulated to all voting members prior to the election.
Expectations of Board Members
- Commit to preparing for and actively participating in at least four Board meetings annually, typically held on Saturdays in Vancouver. The first meeting of the Board after the election will take place on January 23rd in Vancouver. Additional in-person meeting dates for 2027 are April 10th, June 12th/19th, and September 18th/25th (dates are currently tentative). Several evening Zoom meetings are also anticipated on weeknights throughout the year.
- Depending on skills and interests, take on roles beyond governing the BCCFP, which may include chairing or participating on committees, advocacy, providing subject specific advice, and/or participating in provincial events.

- Develop or enhance your skills. Over the last few years, Board members participated in compassionate leadership training, cultural safety and humility workshops, and storytelling and media training.
- BCCFP Directors will receive remuneration for participating in Board meetings at the sessional rate for family physicians as defined by the Physician Master Agreement. Travel time and expenses to participate in in-person meetings will be remunerated according to BCCFP policy.
